MALONY AND WILSON'S NEW QUARTERS.

It is generally admitted that the fine new premises that have just been erected by Messrs. Brown and Jolly for Mesrs. Maloney, and Wilson, tailors and outfitters, at the top right hand side of Wood-lark-st., Lismore, are a worthy andwelcome architectural addition to the town. They are smart and up-to-date through-out, and equal in every way to that which may be seen in the metropolis. The firm has long ago established a high reputa-tion as

gentlemen's tailors, and the enter-prising manner in which they are embarking in these smart new quarters upon the supply of all departments of men's wear gives the male section of the public a guarantee that their interests so far as clothing is concerned will here be well looked after. The premises are three stories high, with a frontage of 20 feet and a depth of 80 feet, large windows on the upper stories occupying the full frontage. An unusual, but attractive feature is the platform in front which tops the edifice. The smart and expensive manner in which the front windows on the ground floor are constructed and fitted is typical of the whole place, and both the exterior and interior design is very creditable to the architects, Messrs. Brown and Jolly On the ground floor there are show win-dows on both sides with an island show window in the centre in the most modern style, there being a depth of twelve feet from the causeway to the two doors of the shop. The fittings of the windows are of copper on dark marble bases, and the interiors are panelled in oak with silver- plated fittings, showing the high class apparel contained in them to the greatest

advantage. On the left hand side there is a private entrance for the staff, which numbers between thirty-five and forty. The shop inside is lofty, well ventilated, and a good light is obtained during the day from sky-lights and at night from a good system of'electricity. The white walls, the delicate coloring of the ceiling, the tasteful oak panelling of the counters and the show cases, and the smart silver-plated fittings all combine to give the place an air of quiet refinement characteristic of city establishments. A series of small counters are along the right hand side, and near the entrance on the left is an attractive show case, while further down there are rolls of suit materials arranged on shelves, and calculated to satisfy the most varying tastes, Towards the rear of the shop there is a series of small apart-ments, constructed of polished wood. Three of them contain handsome mirrors, which indicate their purpose to be fitting rooms. while a desk and drawers in another de-notes it to be that all important depart-ment, the office. There is communication with the upper stories by means of speak-ing tubes and a goods lift, which is constructed at the extreme rear of the shop, where also are the cutting out benches. The second floor is divided into two space- ious apartments, which constitute ideal work rooms, and the top story, which is fitted for the same purpose, has the full area of the building devoted to one room, the same careful attention having been given to lighting and ventilation as on the ground floor. Every floor ls fitted with hose pipes that reach to any part of the apartments for use in case of the out-break of fire, and on the top story there ls access to a fire escape which leads on to the roofs of of adjacent buildings, and also there is a stairway on the outside of the building which leads to the roof, which is laid with a flat top and a para-pet wall around it. A splendid view of the surrounding district can be obtained fom this point of vantage and besides this it has very important uses : at one corner there is a tank for saturating tweeds and the open space is to be used for shrinking them. Also the roof provides the employees with a good breezy spot for their lunches.The roof is of malthoid finished with tar and sand, which forms an excellent ground for walking on.
